Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, earlier today.
During the call held at Kurumba Maldives, Minister Shahid welcomed Prime Minister Wickremesinghe to the Maldives and expressed confidence that Prime Minister's visit to the Maldives will further enhance the close cooperation we have with Sri Lanka.
Minister Shahid and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe discussed various matters of mutual interest, including the importance of forging people-to-people contacts between the two countries, the significant contribution of Sri Lanka in the socio-economic development of the Maldives, cooperation in education and defence sectors between the two countries and also emphasized the close cooperation between the two countries at the regional and international front.
Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Abdul Gafoor Mohamed, Ambassador of the Maldives to Sri Lanka, Omar Abdul Razzaq and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Fathimath Ghina.
