First Disbursements Made from Voter-Backed Fair Elections Fund
DENVER - The Denver Office of the Clerk and Recorder disbursed the first payment from the Fair Elections Fund to municipal candidates for the April 2023 election. The Fair Elections Fund is a ballot measure passed in every precinct by more than 70 percent of voters in the 2018 General Election. In this disbursement, $995,054.94 was paid to 15 campaigns from 2,605 unique donors residing within City and County of Denver limits. This disbursement covers qualifying funds of the reporting period from January 1, 2020 through June 30, 2022. Participating campaigns are listed below, including funds allocated to each.
The Fair Elections Fund matches individual donations of up to $50 at a ratio of 9 to 1 out of a fund totaling $8 million, including the cost of administration. Though similar public election fund measures have been passed and administered in other jurisdictions in the country, this is the first administration of the Fair Elections Fund in the City and County of Denver since it was passed.
Future payments to qualifying candidates will be made in conjunction with the filing of campaign finance reports and will continue through March 2023. The next municipal election takes place April 4, 2023.
