Harland & Wolff partners with BMT's REMBRANDT to demonstrate QEC readiness

Harland & Wolff demonstrates its readiness to accept the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers within its Belfast shipyard at DSEI in London Excel.

This comes following news that Harland & Wolff has been invited to compete for a contract to provide drydocking facilities for the Queen Elizabeth class carriers over ten years by the Ministry of Defence.

The contract notice specifies the requirement to provide up to three dry dockings for the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers over the next ten years, in order to undertake maintenance and repair activities. There will also be a requirement to provide a facility for any emergency dockings that may be required.

Harland & Wolff is one of the only two UK drydocks capable of handling a vessel of this size. Their 81-acre Belfast shipyard was developed to be able to take some of the world's largest vessels, offering two of the largest drydocks in Europe and direct deep water access in the Port of Belfast.

The video capture of the simulation shows how the QEC aircraft carrier moves with complete ease into the Belfast dock. The video shows a visual CGI video showing it gliding into the dock with a dash board on the right-hand side showing water depth, tidal data and other nautical calculations. The Belfast dock measures 335m in length and is 50.29m wide and offers 12.3m depth of water over sill at MHWS.
