Feliciano wins pole vault, duo set new PSAC qualifying marks in 400m at NYC Gotham Cup

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- topped 23 competitors to win the pole vault, while and established PSAC Indoor Championship-qualifying times in the 400-meter dash for the Kutztown University men's track & field team Friday night in the NYC Gotham Cup at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Feliciano, a junior from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, already held the PSAC's top mark after clearing 15-feet, 9-inches at last week's Golden Bear Invitational. He didn't go quite that high this time, but 4.50m (14'9') was more than enough to beat second-place Keith Holland of Stockton by nearly half a foot (4.35m/14'3.25'). Feliciano cleared 4.50m on his second attempt and was the only vaulter to give 4.88m a try as he looked to approach his season-best mark.

Twelve Kutztown student-athletes surpassed PSAC Championship standards, however only Weems and Hebron in the 400m were new qualifiers. Weems, a sophomore, was the highest-placing NCAA Division II sprinter in sixth with a PR of 47.79 and cut more than two-tenths off his former best of 50.05. Freshman Hebron also set a PR with a 51.17, which was good for 13th overall among 85 entrants.

The Golden Bears posted four top-five event finishes, including Feliciano's win in the pole vault, and four additional top 10 finishes. , , and ran an impressive race in the 4x800m relay, taking second to Division I Rider by .15 seconds in 8:10.79. Kutztown was the only D2 school surrounded by D1's in the top-four.

, who moved up to third on KU's indoor top 10 in the weight throw at last Friday's home meet, recorded the fourth best throw at the NYC Gotham Cup, exceeding 55-feet with a best throw of 16.96m (55'7.75'). High jumper tied for fourth with a best effort of 1.89m (6'2.25').

Individual top 10 finishers on the night for the Maroon and Gold included Weems in the 400m, in the high jump (seventh; 1.84m/6'0.5') and in the long jump (ninth; 6.64m/21'9.5'). KU's 4x400m relay consisting of , Hebron, Weems and were seventh fastest of 21 teams with a time of 3:27.66.

Kutztown will take next weekend off before resuming its indoor schedule at the Bucknell Bison Open & Multi on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
