Washington, DC - This week, Congressman Filemon Vela (TX-34) introduced the Success for Rural Students and Communities Act alongside Representatives Josh Harder (CA-10), Elise Stefanik (NY-21), Cheri Bustos (IL-17), Brett Guthrie (KY-02), and Billy Long (MO-07). This bipartisan legislation seeks to improve college access and success for rural students.
'In the era of COVID-19, no student should have to grapple with additional barriers to quality education and employment,' said Congressman Filemon Vela. 'It is unacceptable that a high school student can be hindered from receiving the resources and support they need to be successful in college or the workforce, simply because of their proximity to urban areas. I believe every student should have access to the knowledge and training to be competitive in today's job market, and I am proud to spearhead legislation aimed at creating that opportunity for all South Texans.'
