The Government of India vide Gazette Notification No. 112 dated April 13, 2016 granted infrastructure status to shipyards.

The details of Sagarmala Programme are as given below:
'The vision of Sagarmala is to reduce logistics cost for both domestic and EXIM cargo with minimal infrastructure investment.' Studies under Sagarmala have identified opportunities for reducing overall logistics costs, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the economy and increasing competitiveness of exports.
Currently, there are 802 projects worth investment of Rs. 5.52 lakh crore for implementation under the Sagarmala Programme by 2035. Out of which, 172 projects worth Rs. 88,235 crore have been completed and 235 projects worth Rs. 2.16 lakh crore are under implementation. Further, 395 projects worth Rs. 2.48 Lakh crore are under various stages of development.
This information was given by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and WaterwaysShri Sarbananda Sonowal in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
