TOMORROW: Tune into a Virtual Public Forum with OPA Director Candidates

Seattle - As part of the selection process for the next Director of the Office of Police Accountability (OPA), finalists will participate in a virtual public forum tomorrow, Wednesday, June 8th at 6:30PM. The public forum will be recorded, streamed live, and televised by Seattle Channel. The public forum is an opportunity for the community to hear from finalists for the position.

The public is encouraged to suggest questions for the candidates prior to the event.  Questions can be submitted anonymously through the following link before 12:00PM (noon) tomorrow before the event. Hosted by Brian Callanan of the Seattle Channel, candidates will each receive the same questions.

The City has conducted a national search for the OPA Director. The selection committee, which included current Community Police Commissioners, community members and representatives from Council, the Seattle Police Department and the Mayor's Office, reviewed applications of qualified applicants, conducted panel interviews, and reviewed responses to the written exam. As a result of this robust process, four finalists were selected to participate in the public forum and to go before the Mayor for consideration.

Scheduled to participate in the forum (in alphabetical order) will be:

  • Eddie Aubrey, Civilian Manager for the Office of Professional Accountability, Richmond, CA
  • Gino Betts, Assistant State Attorney at the Community Justice Center within the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, Chicago, IL
  • Ginale Harris, Program Director, Felton Institute, San Francisco, CA and former Oakland Police Commissioner, Oakland, CA
  • Valiza Nash, Supervising Investigator (Special Victims), Civilian Office of Police Accountability, Chicago, IL
