Man Convicted of Child Molestation Arrested by Border Patrol

CALEXICO, Calif. - U.S.Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sectorarrested a previously deported convicted sex offender Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at around 10:57 p.m., when agents assigned to the El Centro Station encountered a man suspected of illegally entering the United States approximately one mile west of the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry. Agents arrested the man and transported him to the El Centro Station for immigration and criminal history screening.

Agents conducted records checks, which revealed that the man was identified as Rodrigo Munoz-Venegas, a 28-year-old lawful permanent resident, whowas convicted of Felony Child Molestation in White County, IN. Munoz was found guilty on May 6, 2014.

Munoz is being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.

In fiscal year 2020, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested and removed 11 individuals either convicted or wanted on sexual assault charges after they entered the United States illegally. Click here for the previous sex offenders apprehended in the El Centro Sector this month.
