EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan Charlotte Adriaen presented credentials to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev

On April 23, Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan Charlotte Adriaen presented credentials to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

During the Ceremony, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev mentioned:

'The European Union has traditionally been an important strategic partner of our country. In recent years, the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU, based on equality, mutual respect and trust, has gained new momentum'.

Special attention was paid to the comprehensive support provided by European partners to the process of democratic renewal, economic reforms and transformation in our country.

'The fact that our country has been granted the status of a beneficiary of the EU General System of Preferences has been recognized as a joint achievement and an important achievement of bilateral relations.

Currently, active negotiations are underway on a draft agreement on enhanced partnership and cooperation. Effective dialogue in the formats 'Uzbekistan - EU' and 'Central Asia - EU' is also developing,' added the President.

It was expressed confidence that the events planned to be held at the highest level will serve to raise the multifaceted Uzbek-European relations to a fundamentally new level.

Upon Completion of the Solemn Ceremony, EU Ambassador Charlotte Adriaen shared her impressions:

- Today I presented my credentials to His Excellency President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who confirmed his commitment to continuing democratic and economic reforms.

It is a great honor for me to have the opportunity to participate in supporting the reform program, and I will do my best to bring the partnership and cooperation between the European Union and Uzbekistan to an even higher level.

Briefly about the Ambassador Charlotte Adriaen:

Ms Charlotte Adriaen started her path to diplomacy more than 25 years ago and it began, as it continues, from the sphere of international development and cooperation. At various times in her career, sche have worked in European Union Delegations in Madagascar, Senegal and Lebanon. There were also appointments in Brussels, at the EU headquarters, in particular, in the Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development, where she worked in the budget support department, and later as the head of the sector of the human rights department. However, a significant and important part of her career was in the Central Asia region.

Ms Adriaen first got acquainted with the region in 1998, when she came to work as a program specialist, and later as the interim head of the cooperation department in the EU Delegation to Kazakhstan. Then, in 2007, she returned to the region, to be the Chargé d'Affaires of the EU Delegation to Tajikistan, and finally, for the last 3.5 years, Ms Adriaen served as Head of Cooperationnin the EU Delegation to Kyrgyzstan.
