Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX) released the following statement after the United States Senate voted to ratify Sweden and Finland's membership in NATO.

"While Putin tried to weaken NATO and destabilize Europe's security architecture with his unjust and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, it has had the opposite effect. Instead, NATO is stronger. I am pleased to see the Senate ratify the addition of Sweden and Finland's NATO membership. Both countries will be security providers and contribute positively to the collective defense of NATO. All allies must send a strong signal of transatlantic unity to the despot in the Kremlin by swiftly ratifying Sweden and Finland's membership and meeting the alliance's two percent defense spending commitment."
