Jimmies Top Seed In Pool Play At National Tournament

The University of Jamestown Jimmie volleyballl team is the top-seed in Pool H of the 2019 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship presented by Delta Hotels which will be held at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa December 3-7.

The #8 ranked Jimmies will take on unranked Xavier (La.) Golden Nuggets (31-6) Tuesday, December 3rd at 1:00 p.m.

The following day the Jimmies will face Westmont (Calif.) at 2:00 p.m. Westmont is the first team listed with votes just outside the final regular season top-25 poll.

Pool play will wrap up Thursday, December 5th when UJ takes on #9 ranked Columbia (Mo.) at 4:00 p.m.

The top two teams from pool play will advance to the quarterfinals which begin Friday, December 6th.

The Jimmies have won a school record 29 matches this season (29-4) and are coming off a Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament championship, winning all 3 tournament matches at Harold Newman Arena.

UJ is making their 7th appearance in the national tournament, its 4th in-a-row and carries a 9-match winning streak into next week.

The Jimmies have won at least one match at the national tournament in each of the last three years. Last year UJ went 2-1 in pool play, sweeping #7 Viterbo and St. Xavier, before losing a one-set tiebreaker match in an effort to advance to the NAIA quarterfinals.

In 2017 the Jimmies advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating #16 Coernerstone and Texas Wesleyan in Sioux City.

Xavier went 14-0 in winning the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, captured the GCAC Postseason Tournament and swept William Carey at home in the NAIA Opening Round match to advance to Sioux City.

Saturday's win broke a streak of 8-consecutive opening round losses and clinched the program's first trip to the final site.

Westmont (26-6) tied for first place in the regular season standings in the Golden State Athletic Conference (14-4), won the GSAC Tournament and advanced to Sioux City by sweeping Point (Ga.) Saturday at home in the NAIA Opening Round match. It's the fourth consecutive trip to Sioux City for Westmont.

Columbia (Mo.) heads to Sioux City with a 27-5 record and finished third in the American Midwest Conference at 10-2. The Cougars lost in the AMC Tournament semifinals to #4 ranked Missouri Baptist.
