Voters reminded to bring ID on May 2

On Thursday, residents in Bolton will be able to vote for both their representative on Bolton Council and for the Mayor of Greater Manchester.

Changes introduced by the Elections Act 2022 mean anyone voting at a polling station must first show an accepted form of photo ID.

Accepted forms of ID include a passport, driving licence (including provisional) and some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person's bus pass.

Voters can use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.

Residents in the Horwich North ward can vote for up to two candidates for Bolton Council, due to a byelection taking place on the same day.

Sue Johnson, Bolton Council's Chief Executive and Returning Officer for the election, said:

"It is vital that everyone who wants to have their say at local elections is able to do so.

"We want to remind voters across the borough to bring an accepted form of photo ID with them to the polling station on May 2.

"I would also urge residents to check that their friends, family, and neighbours remember to bring their ID, so that nobody who is eligible to vote is turned away on the day."
