Congresswoman Tenney’s Anti-BDS Bill Passes Ways and Means Markup

Washington, DC-Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) announced her bill, H.R. 5179, the Anti-BDS Labeling Act, passed the House Ways and Means Committee Markup by a vote of 25-17.

This legislation prohibits federal funds from being used to reverse or alter the Trump administration's "Country of Origin Marking of Products from the West Bank and Gaza" notice. Specifically, this requires that products made in Israeli-controlled areas of Judea and Samaria be marked as originating from "Israel," and that goods made in Gaza or Palestinian-controlled areas of Judea and Samaria be labeled as either made in "Gaza" or the "West Bank," not in "Gaza/West Bank."

"For years, the anti-Semitic BDS movement has sought to cripple the Israeli economy and arbitrarily discriminate against goods made in Israeli-controlled areas of Judea and Samaria," said Congresswoman Tenney. "Ways and Means Republicans reinforced existing U.S. policy that prevents federal funds from being used to support the BDS movement. By passing this bill out of Committee, we reiterate our support for our greatest ally in the Middle East and the lone beacon of freedom and democracy, Israel."

"America stands with Israel, especially in the aftermath of Iran's attack this weekend. Israel is not just our ally but also one of our top trading partners," said Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith. "This legislation codified into law a Trump executive order that acknowledges Israel's territorial sovereignty and clarifies whether a product was made in Israel, Palestinian-controlled portions of the West Bank, or Gaza. Americans should have the knowledge and power to buy products that support Israel's economy."
