The 9th Sino-Russian Senior Economic Forum Co-Hosted by Renmin University of China and St. Petersburg State Economic University Held

On June 8, the 9th Sino-Russian Senior Economic Forum was held, co-organized by National Academy of Development and Strategy (NADS) of Renmin University of China (RUC), St. Petersburg State Economic University (SPbU), and RUC-SPbU Center for Russian Studies.

Liu Wei, President of RUC said in his speech that together with St. Petersburg State Economic University, Renmin University of China is ready to actively promote Sino-Russian cooperation in various fields and to boost the development of a more just and equitable global economic governance system. It is expected that this forum will provide a better platform for enhancing economic and trade cooperation between China and Russia, a bridge for promoting humanistic interactions, and contribute to the construction of a community of shared future for mankind.

Igor A. Maksimtsev, President of St. Petersburg State Economic University, reviewed the development of the Sino-Russian Senior Economic Forum since its establishment in 2002 and spoke highly of the fruitful achievements of the Forum in humanities, trade and economic cooperation over the past 20 years, as well as its important contribution to the academic exchanges between the two universities and the enhancement of friendship between the two countries.

Igor Pozdniakov, First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in China, representative of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education in China, expressed his gratitude to Renmin University of China for the pragmatic collaboration of the forum organizers and the effective implementation of concrete cooperation projects.

After years of development, the forum has become an authoritative platform for the exchange of scientific and practical experience and plays an important role in realizing economic cooperation between Russia and China, said Viktor Romanikov, head of the Bilateral Cooperation Department of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Russia and China have a strong economic and technological base for sustainable development and should work together to face the current opportunities and challenges of the world.

Yang Xiaochun, former deputy director of the Center for Humanistic Exchanges between China and Foreign Countries of the Ministry of Education, said that at a time when the world is marked by profound changes unseen in a century and economic globalization is experiencing headwind, this forum is of great significance to deepen cooperation and push forward the peaceful development. He expects the hosts to build the forum into a platform for cooperation between the two countries and for cultivating talents with international vision and for promoting humanistic exchanges between China and foreign countries.

The forum was divided into three sections: "Challenges of the times: economy and geopolitics", "Main areas of Russian-Chinese economic and trade cooperation", and "Humanistic cooperation between Russia and China". Du Peng, Vice President of RUC, Chinese Chairman of the Education Council of the Sino-Russian Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development delivered a speech entitled "Development of the Education Council of the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development" in one of the sections.

The Sino-Russian Senior Economic Forum is not only a landmark project of cooperation between Renmin University of China and St. Petersburg State University of Economics, but also an important platform to promote the healthy development of trade and economic relations between Russia and China and to discuss the transformation of the Sino-Russian economic development model.
