Vincent Defourny, the New Director of the UNESCO Geneva Liaison Office

Vincent Defourny (Belgium) is appointed to be the new Director of the UNESCO liaison Office in Geneva. As the Representative of UNESCO to the United Nations in Geneva and other International Organizations, he will continue to contribute with UNESCO's expertise in the implementation of the Agenda 2030.

Prior to his recent incumbency in Geneva, Vincent Defourny held multiple senior positions within UNESCO. He was the Director of the Brasilia Office and the Representative of UNESCO in Brazil from 2006 to 2011; Project Manager of the Field Coordination Office from 2012-2013; the Director of the Division of Cooperation with Extrabudgetary Funding Sources from 2013 to 2015, and most recently the Director of the Division of Public Information from 2015 to 2019, where he managed to relaunch the UNESCO Courier after several years of disappearance.

Before joining UNESCO in 1997, he worked in Uganda as a secondary school teacher, then taught in higher education in Belgium and France (Catholic University of Louvain, CELSA, Sciences Po and ENA International). He also worked as a communication and management consultant for various companies in the public, private and non-profit sectors in Belgium, France and Spain.

Mr. Defourny holds a doctoral degree in Social Communication from the Catholic University of Louvain and speaks French, English, Spanish and Portuguese.
