Iowa City Pride signs available at City Hall and Library

Pride month is coming up soon and the Office of Equity and Human Rights has free Pride yard signs available again this year on a first-come basis. Iowa City residents can pick up a sign at City Hall's front lobby information desk, 410 E. Washington St., during regular business hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; or at the Iowa City Public Library's First Floor Service Desk during regular business hours: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday Noon to 5 p.m.

Because of the limited number of signs available, we ask that you take only one sign per household.

Be sure to follow these basic rules to avoid City sign ordinance violations:

Signs must be on the resident's property - not within the right of way.

Signs on a corner lot cannot block the vision triangle of the street.

The reusable sign is waterproof, making it perfect for any home or business outdoor space. Display your Iowa City Pride by simply inserting the included H stake into the plastic yard sign and then into the lawn to get the message across.

The annual Pride celebration began as a collective protest advocating for the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, and freedom in expressing gender identity. The national tradition of celebrating Pride in June is a tribute to the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969, which are remembered as the launch of the modern LGBTQ+ civil rights movement.
