City of Jackson hiring lifeguards for summer 2024 season at Nixon Water Park

Lifeguards ready to make a splash this summer are encouraged to apply for open positions with the City of Jackson Parks and Recreation Department. The department is currently hiring lifeguards and staff for the Nixon Water Park 2024 season.

The water park is open Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. starting Monday, June 17 and lasting through Saturday, Aug. 10. The Parks and Recreation Department has open positions for Pool Supervisor at $24 hourly, Head Lifeguard at $19 hourly, and up to 20 Lifeguard positions. Lifeguards over 18 years old will earn $17 hourly. Those under 18 will get $15 hourly.

Kelli Hoover, Director of Parks and Recreation, says the water park is excited to hire new lifeguards for the summer season. "Our department is often the first stop of employment for Jackson area youth. Located outside in the open air and sunshine, lifeguards have found this to be the perfect summer job," Hoover said. "We're looking to attract the best guards available to keep residents safe while enjoying the pool."

Interested applicants may submit an employment application through the City website, cityofjackson.org, in the Personnel & Labor Relations section. An application packet is available on the website. Questions about the positions should be directed to Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Andrew Sargeant by calling 517-990-6290.

Lifeguards must have the proper certifications to be eligible for hiring consideration, along with being 15 years old or older. The Jackson YMCA is holding American Red Cross lifeguard certification classes May 17-19, June 11-13 and July 18-20. Class registration is available on the YMCA website, jacksonymca.org.
