Fortum subsidiary Uniper to build Germany’s first LNG terminal – aim is to diversify natural gas supply sources .

Fortum subsidiary Uniper has been chosen to build and operate Germany's first LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven. Uniper will invest around €65 million in the project. In addition, a letter of intent (LOI) was signed by all contracting parties in the project for the purchase of two floating storage and regasification units (FSRU). Uniper had optioned both FSRUs on the market for the German government. The plan is to have the terminal in use in the winter 2022-2023.

In the project Uniper is supporting the German government in its plans to diversify its supply sources of natural gas in order to decrease its dependence on natural gas supplied from Russia.

Germany plans to develop a green energy hub in Wilhelmshaven. Uniper is supporting this initiative with its Green Wilhelmshaven project.
