May 8, 2024May 8, 2024

Dr. Nicki Wise is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Wise, a South Carolina native, brings a variety of clinical and teaching experience to The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). After earning her DVM from the University of Georgia and a PhD under the USDA Agriculture Research Service, she joined the faculty at St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Large Animal Medicine and Surgery. She was promoted to Professor in 2019 and was later appointed to the role of Associate Dean of Year Four Clinical Training. While there are many priorities as the College continues to grow, Wise says she remains student focused.

"I am excited to admit our first class and help them meet their goals. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a DVM student grow over four years into a veterinarian, ready to enter our profession and help the animals (and humans) in their communities."

Wise grew up in Walterboro, SC, and she says it's been an aspiration of hers to return to the Palmetto State a help shape the future of veterinary medicine. She believes that collaboration and cooperation will be the keys to the success of the college.

"My goal prior to the arrival of our students is to help create a curriculum and a community that focuses on the well-being and success of our students, faculty and staff. The Clemson CVM is committed to creating the next generation of veterinarians in this state, and we plan to fulfill this mission while developing a program that embodies the values of the Clemson family."

CVM will be South Carolina's first college of veterinary medicine and will be crucial to addressing the shortage of large and small animal veterinarians around the state and nation. The College will impact communities near and far, and CVM students will be at the forefront of filling these critical roles in veterinary medicine.

"I am dedicated to the success of our students and the college. And I am aware of the huge impact we stand to have on the future of this state, one student at a time."

Wise is married to Dr. Brian Butler, fellow CVM faculty member. They have two daughters, ages 5 and 7, and two dogs, a coonhound and Missouri brown dog!
