LOUISVILLE, Ky.-Bellarmine University opened its 2018 lacrosse season with a 15-7 loss to Robert Morris on Friday afternoon in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium. The Colonials (1-1) took the early lead on a Tyson Gibson goal less than a minute and a half into the game. After Bellarmine's answered 61 seconds later, Robert Morris reeled off six straight goals to surge ahead 7-1 before settling for an 8-2 halftime advantage. The visitors saw their advantage swell to 10-2 about midway through the third quarter, and Bellarmine could get no closer than six the rest of the way. The Knights actually outshot the Colonials, but the visitors put 26 of their 35 shots on frame. Bellarmine, meanwhile was on target with just 16 of its 39 shots. Individually, Jimmy Perkins had a big game for the Colonials with a pair goals and six assists for eight points in the game. Teammate Corson Kealy netted three goals and Matt Schmidt added two goals and two assists for RMU. Bellarmine, playing without several key members of its offensive and defensive units due to injury, was paced by a pair of freshmen and a sophomore. collected a hat trick and added an assist in his collegiate debut while fellow freshman added a goal and two assists. Sophomore duplicated Leganard's scoring stats while seniors and Roshkowski tallied a goal apiece to round out the Knights' scoring. Aside from goals and ground balls-where RMU held a 24-16 advantage, the statistics were fairly even. Both clubs turned the ball over 14 times, and Bellarmine won 13 of the game's 25 face-offs. The Colonials capitalized on their only extra man opportunity while the Knights were 0-for-3 in man-up situations. Robert Morris goalie Alex Heger picked up the win while collecting nine saves. Bellarmine's got the start in goal and was saddled with the loss while totaling 10 saves. worked the final quarter in goal for the Knights and picked up one save in his 15 minutes of work. The Knights return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Ann Arbor to take on the Michigan Wolverines.
