KSU Hosts South Alabama in Season Opener

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's soccer team opens the 2022 season by hosting the South Alabama Jaguars at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 6:00 p.m.

The Owls lead the all-time series 1-0 against the Jags as KSU defeated South Alabama 2-1 in the only matchup on Aug. 31, 2014.

KSU has posted a strong record in home debuts, going 14-4-2 dating back to 2002. In season openers, Kennesaw State is 11-8-1.

The first 50 students will receive a KSU soccer-branded t-shirt. There will also be soccer posters and postgame autographs available. The B.O.B. will run from 7:30 to 9:30 shuttling students back to campus from the stadium and pick up at the stop across from the Owl's Nest.

Fans can also be a part of "The Flight of the Owls" new pregame tradition. Fans that are interested should go down to the bottom of sections 101-102 to cheer and welcome the team back onto the field before the start of the match.

Two Land Preseason All-ASUN Honors
and both earned preseason All-ASUN honors. Clarke capped off a strong season by finishing third in the ASUN with five goals, 11 points and three game-winning goals. Contreras, the 2019 ASUN Freshman of the Year, has been a three-time all-conference nominee.

Have You Ever Seen the Rain
Sophomore forward led the Owls in scoring as a freshman a season ago, netting seven goals and 14 points to earn a spot on the all-conference freshman team. The forward also scored the first KSU hat trick since Shannon Driscoll on Aug. 28, 2016, with three goals in the ASUN Tournament quarterfinal win against Central Arkansas.

Top Four Scorers Return
Kennesaw State brings back 85.7% of its scoring from a season ago. The top four scorers from 2021, , , , and are back for another season on the pitch.

New Faces
KSU features 14 newcomers, 11 of which are freshmen. The Owls brought in a trio of transfers, (Kansas), (Cincinnati) and (Virginia Tech). The freshmen class features four players from Georgia, two from Florida, and one each from South Carolina, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Argentina.

International Talent
The Owls have several players with international experience on the squad this season. Freshman plays for the Argentina National Team in both soccer and handball. Singarella also played for the Independiente Rivadavia team, winning three-straight championships in the Primera B Nacional league in Argentina. Sophomore played with the Peru National Team in the 2022 Copa America Femenina Tournament in July. Junior is from Milan, Italy and has experience playing for FC Internazionale U19, CFB Bocconi and Polisportiva Segrate. The midfielder appeared in 19 games last season, making 15 starts.

Iron Women
(1,802) and (1,724) led the team in minutes played. Dekker's 1,802 minutes was the 10th highest in KSU history. Both started and appeared in all 19 games last season.

The Higgs Experience
Redshirt senior enters her fifth season playing for the Owls. The forward/midfielder has provided a stable presence since joining the program in 2018. The Loxahatchee, Fla. native has been named to the ASUN All-Conference Second Team three of the past four seasons.

Next Match
The Owls head to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on the Wofford Terriers on Sunday, Aug. 21 at 2:00 p.m.
