Will Vulnerable Rep. Beth Van Duyne Stand with Texans, or Continue Her Radical Attacks on Reproductive Health Care?

As the House prepares to vote on the Women's Health Protection Act, Beth Van Duyne stands in opposition to majority of Americans who support safe, legal abortion

This month, vulnerable Republican Beth Van Duyne staked out one of the most radical positions possible on reproductive rights by backing the draconian Texas abortion ban. Now, as the House prepares to vote on the Women's Health Protection Act, Beth will once again prove that she's deeply out of step with the majority of Americans who support access to safe, legal abortion.

This legislation, which would take the long-overdue step of codifying the protections of Roe v. Wade and affirm nearly 50 years of Supreme Court precedent, could not be more urgent after Texas Republicans passed their bounty-hunting abortion ban that controls people's decisions and criminalizes doctors who provide care for their patients. This is the loudest alarm yet that abortion access is in grave danger, in Texas and across the country. While the Texas bill is extreme, it's part of the Republican agenda to end access to abortion in this country.

Rep. Beth Van Duyne should know: All eyes are on her tomorrow as she chooses to either stand up for Texans' freedom to make their own personal health care decisions, or once again prove that she is completely out of touch with the majority of Americans.

"All eyes are on Beth Van Duyne after she backed an abortion ban so extreme that it effectively ends safe, legal abortion in Texas and puts a bounty on the heads of doctors," said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. "Beth has a choice: stand up for Texas women's freedom to make their own decisions about their bodies, or answer for her radical attacks on reproductive health care at the ballot box in 2022."
