April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children’s Day

Following is the message President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued on the occasion of April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children's Day:

'I celebrate with my sincerest feelings the 101st anniversary of the foundation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

I hope that this unique day, gifted to world's children by Ghazi Mustafa Kemal, will lead to auspicious outcomes for our country, nation and children.

Although we celebrate April 23rd without coming together with world's children this year as well due to the global coronavirus pandemic, we, together with all our children and nation, feel the excitement and enthusiasm of this significant day.

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey, which was inaugurated with the principle, 'The sovereignty unconditionally belongs to the nation,' and which proclaimed the Turkish nation's independence and the sovereignty of the national will to the entire world, has led our struggle for the future as well as our independence.

Our parliament, which has survived many hardships since April 23, 1920, received second time during July 15 coup attempt the title of 'ghazi', which it won in a dignified manner during the National Struggle.

Our august parliament, which has gone through putsches, juntas, attempts of tutelage and terror attacks and which was bombed on July 15, 2016 by FETO-member traitors, will continue to exist forever as the embodiment of the national will.

We work with all our strength to build a greater, stronger and more prosperous Turkey for our august nation, which has closed ranks under the roof of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey with the ideal of great and strong Turkey, and to leave future generations a country which they will be proud of.

On the occasion of April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children's Day, one of the most beautiful manifestations of the significance and value our nation attaches to children, I would like to reiterate that our children and youth are the most precious treasure of our country.

We march with firm steps towards our goals for 2023 and the future by combining the strength we get from our glorious history and our children's energy with today's dynamism.

On this occasion, I, on our nation's behalf, offer my gratitude to all the deputies who have served our country under the roof of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey since its foundation.

I remember with grace and gratitude Ghazi Mustafa Kemal -- the Commander-in-Chief of our Independence War, the first Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, and the founder of our Republic -- as well as all our martyrs and ghazis.

I, with all my heart, congratulate all our children on this unique festival.'
