Christmas music, crafts and hot chocolate: California Trail Interpretive Center presents a Pioneer Christmas for Kids

Elko, Nev. - The California Trail Center will present its annual holiday celebration, a Pioneer Christmas for Kids, on Dec. 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Enjoy listening to Southwind, making holiday crafts and drinking hot chocolate at the California Trail Interpretive Center.

'It's time to celebrate Christmas at the California Trail Center,' said Visitors Guide Jordan Thomas. 'From making crafts and drinking hot chocolate to touring the exhibits there is something for everyone at Pioneer Christmas for Kids.'

Activities include:

  • Enjoy Christmas music by Southwind. 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Live holiday music

in the California Trail Center's lobby.

  • Design Christmas cards. The best Christmas cards are made from scratch.
  • Make a Snowman Wreath. Make your own snowman wreath to decorate your front door or give as a gift.
  • Decorate a Christmas Tree Ornament. Visit this station to design an ornament to hang on your Christmas tree.
  • Create reindeer ornaments. Make a candy cane reindeer ornament for your own Christmas tree or to give as a gift.

The celebration is free and open to everyone. Visitors are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to benefit F.I.S.H. (Friends in Service Helping) and families of Elko County.

The California Trail Interpretive Center is located eight miles west of Elko on I-80, Hunter exit 292. The Center is open Thursday through Monday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.
