'The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, General of the Police of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolokoltsev signed an order awarding departmental medals 'For Courage in the Course of Rescue' to inspectors of the Traffic Police of the MIA of Russia Division for the Chistoozersky District of the Novosibirsk Region, Major of Police Sergey Martynenko and Lieutenant of Police Vladimir Eirikh, who showed courage and determination in rescuing children from fire,' said the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
On June 8, while patrolling the streets of the workers settlement of Chistoozernoye, Sergey Martynenko and Vladimir Eirikh noticed a fire in one of the private houses. Having reported the fire to emergency services, Traffic Police inspectors rushed to the burning house.
In the window of one of the smoky rooms the policemen saw two little boys trying to get out, but failing to reach the saving window handle. Immediately assessing the situation, the inspectors asked the children by gestures to step away from the window, smashed the glass and carried them out.
Then the police officers took the kids to a safe distance from the fire and handed them over to the doctors. Making sure that the children's health was not threatened by anything, the Traffic Police inspectors organized the unhindered passage of fire trucks to the scene of the accident.
'Thus, thanks to the confident and concerted actions of Sergey Martynenko and Vladimir Eirikh, the children's lives were saved,' Irina Volk noted.
