EmPOWERing Sustainable Neighborhoods: Rent with Power

Memphis Light, Gas and Water is hosting a LIVE webinar on Wednesday, August 17, from 4 - 5 p.m., to discuss rental rights and provide information about assistance programs and resources for renters.

EmPOWERING Sustainable Neighborhoods is a series of virtual workshops for those interested in community-related environmental topics; it is hosted by MLGW's Vice President of Community and External Affairs Gale Jones Carson. Customers can register for the webinar at mlgwneighborhoods.eventbrite.com; a Zoom link will be sent to registrants.

The August 17 webinar will provide our customers with information about renter rights, rental trends and any assistance programs that can assist them as they navigate through the current rental climate.

Guest panelists include James Smith of Shelby County Division of Community Services, who will talk about assistance programs and resources for renters; and Robin Eugene Warren of Memphis Area Legal Services Inc., who will talk about rental rights.

James Smith is as an outreach specialist with the Shelby County Division of Community Services. In this role, he develops relationships with non-profits and organizations within targeted Shelby County communities in order to connect residents with the services his organization provides. James is a graduate of Frayser High School in Memphis. He earned his bachelor's degree at Christian Brothers University.

Robin E. Warren has a Juris Doctorate from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. He has been a licensed attorney since 2016. He has been a staff attorney for Memphis Fair Housing at Memphis Area Legal Services, Inc. since 2018 and currently serves as its managing attorney. He represents clients in state and federal court, before administrative agencies, and other appropriate forums on legal matters related to various landlord/tenant matters with a concentration on unlawful ousters and property tax redemption litigation.
