BMI and NYU again this year partnered in June on presenting a 12-day television scoring workshop for emerging composers. Participants received hands-on experience from award-winning BMI composers that included John Kaefer (Shark Tank, America's Got Talent), David Schwartz (Arrested Development, Trading Places), Sean Callery (Bones, 24), Mandy Hoffman (I Love Dick, Doll & Em), Pete Nashel (Tonya, Book Club, Marco Polo) and Ben Decter (Lucifer, Bless This Mess). The talented mentors graciously donated their time and knowledge to this unique workshop, which underscores BMI's commitment to help foster the next generation of music makers.
Lead by Director of the Film Scoring program, Ron Sadoff, and Mark Suozzo, Associate Professor of Music at NYU Steinhardt, the workshop provided the aspiring composers with real-life experiences of how to be creative with limited resources, interface with key players of postproduction teams, and successfully deliver on time in high-pressure situations under short deadlines. Their work was critiqued by the top composers along with NYU's acclaimed Screen Scoring faculty, and participants also had the unparalleled opportunity to record and mix their music with New York City's top industry professionals.
