A detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet (PF) proceeded through the ice fields in the area of the La Perouse Strait to the Sea of Okhotsk.

Overcoming the area with a difficult ice situation was carried out as part of a planned naval exercise under the leadership of Fleet Commander Admiral Sergei Avakyants. The exercise involved more than 20 warships of the Pacific Fleet, including the corvettes Gremiashchy, Sovershenny, Gromky and Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov, the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Panteleev, the command ship Marshal Krylov, as well as small missile and small anti-submarine ships, minesweepers and missile boats.

The passage of a detachment of ships through the ice fields took two days. Pilots of Ka-27PS deck helicopters of the Pacific Fleet naval aviation carried out air control over the ice situation along the route of ships and vessels.

The icebreaker Captain Khlebnikov provided the escort of warships through the ice fields.

Earlier, the crews of the Ka-27PS conducted an ice reconnaissance of the La Perouse Strait, connecting the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk, to determine the optimal route for the movement of the units of the Pacific Fleet through the strait zone.

In accordance with the training plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for 2022, a series of naval exercises are held in January-February in all areas of responsibility of the fleets under the overall leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.

The main focus of the exercises is to work out the actions of the Navy and Aerospace Forces to protect Russian national interests in the world Ocean, as well as to counter military threats to the Russian Federation from sea and ocean directions.

In total, more than 140 warships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft, 1,000 units of military equipment, and about 10,000 military personnel are involved in the events.
