Congressman Cohen Commemorates Six-Month Anniversary of the Infrastructure Law

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, announced that $1.7 billion from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) has been allocated to Tennessee in the six months since President Biden signed it into law. Congressmen Cohen and Jim Cooper (TN-05) were the only members of the Tennessee Congressional Delegation who voted for the measure.

The funding announced over the past six months, including millions in transit funding, will help Memphis and Tennessee rebuild roads and bridges, replace lead pipes, expand access to high-speed internet, deliver cheaper and cleaner energy to households and businesses, and create good-paying jobs for hardworking American families.

"The historic investments announced over the past six months are just the start of the transformative impact the IIJA will have on our community," said Congressman Cohen. "Although I have already announced major investments beneficial to Memphis, this is just the beginning. For years to come, the investments from this law will continue to rebuild our infrastructure and create good-paying jobs for hardworking Memphis and Mid-South families."

Separately Congressman Cohen has announced IIJA-supported funding for dredging the Wolf River Harbor, $120.8 million to improve Tennessee water systems and replace lead pipes, $60.4 million to repair, rehabilitate and replace Tennessee's bridges, $17.8 million for Memphis airports, $88.3 million for electronic vehicle charging stationsacross the state, and other funding.

Nationwide, more than $110 billion has been announced so far, with funding on the way for 4,300 specific projects impacting over 3,200 communities across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
