On September 25, 2020, the main stage of the maneuvers 'Kavkaz-2020' will be held at the Kapustin Yar training ground in the Astrakhan region.
During the main stage, units of Russian Armed Forces, in cooperation with the military contingents of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the People's Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Union of Myanmar, will work out joint actions to repel the offensive, inflict fire damage to the forces of a mock enemy, go on the offensive and complete the defeat of its main forces. In total, up to 1 thousand military personnel will be involved in the practical action draw at the Kaupstin Yar training ground from the armed forces of foreign states.
The combat training missions will be based on the experience of military operations in the Syrian Arab Republic and the forms of use and methods of action of formations, military units and subunits tested during combat training activities, taking into account the tactics of actions of units of the armed forces of foreign states.
Drawing of practical actions of troops (forces) will be carried out for several tactical episodes.
At the initial stage, in the course of conducting maneuver defense in order to disrupt the offensive of a mock enemy, the troops of the coalition group of forces will draw it into the 'operational bag' and stop its advance. After that, the plan of action provides for a massive fire strike to inflict maximum losses on the enemy.
In order to delay the advance of operational reserves of the mock enemy in the depth of its defense, it is planned to use operational and tactical landing, thereby creating conditions for a counterattack.
With the completion of covering flank attacks in two converging directions in order to encircle the 'enemy' main strike forces by a group consisting of the 58th army of Russian Armed Forces and the military contingent of the Republic of Armenia, they will be dealt the main strike.
In the other direction, it is planned to use part of the forces of the 20th army of Russian Armed Forces, military contingents of the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China in the counterattack.
Further more, the troops of the defending coalition group will go on the offensive and complete the defeat of enemy's encircled group.
In the main draw of practical actions of troops (forces) at the site 'Kapustin Yar' as part of a coalition group of forces will perform tasks the formations and military units of the 58th army of the Southern Military District, part of a 20 combined arms army of the Western Military District, the formations of the airborne troops, army aviation brigade, the grouping of rocket troops and artillery, air defense, unmanned aircraft, military, technical, logistic and medical support, military contingents of foreign states.
The maneuvers 'Kavkaz-2020' is being supervised by the Chief of the General Staff - First Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation from September 21 to 26, 2020 at the internal ranges of the Southern Military District - Prudboy, Ashuluk, Kapustin Yar, ground aviation ranges Arzgirsky and Kopanskaya, as well as in the waters of the Black and Caspian seas.
In addition, military formations from Armenia, Belarus, China, Myanmar and Pakistan are invited to the exercise to practice joint actions as part of groups of troops (forces). Representatives of Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Sri-Lanka plan to participate as observers.
In total, about 80 people are expected to be involved in the maneuvers 'Kavkaz-2020' (including formations and units of combat, logistics and technical support, as well as air defence, navy and special forces units (National guard and Ministry of Emergency Situations). At the same time, the maximum number of personnel involved in military units that fall under the Vienna document of 2011 in the exercise, conducted under a single operational command, will be up to 12,900 military personnel. Up to 250 tanks, up to 450 infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers, up to 200 artillery systems and multiple launch rocket systems will be involved in the practical actions of the troops (forces) at the training grounds.
