Sarah (Natale) Mondello, a 2014 graduate from Crystal Lake Central, is the author of The Kiss of Death, a book that stimulated from her senior year Creative Writing teacher, Jerry Thiel's, assignment. Mondello was asked to speak with senior Creative Writing classes at CLC to talk about her journey as a writer. Her path is unique, considering when she was published, she was at the same school and was the same age as the students she was speaking to.
Mondello spoke to six total Creative Writing classes. 'It was beneficial for my students to learn about the writing and publishing process, but more importantly, they got to hear from a Central grad that made her dream become a reality,' said Shannon Schroeder, one of the Creative Writing teachers.
The Crystal Lake Central Library has a special, signed copy of The Kiss of Death dedicated to the school. 'It was nostalgic to return to CLC, reconnect with former teachers, and embrace so many fond memories, and it was surreal to be back in Mr. Thiel's classroom - this time leading the class!' Mondello said.
As a recent graduate from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Mondello is working on her next book and has a job in editorial and marketing for a Chicagoland book publisher. She shared with the students what she has learned about the other side of publishing as a possible career path for them.
