Rep. Tony Gonzales Takes Key Steps to Secure Funding for New Veteran Excellence Center at UTSA

Today, Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) announced he submitted a community project funding request in Congress to establish and construct a new Veteran Excellence Center at the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA). This center will support veteran and military-affiliated students throughout their tenure at UTSA by providing essential academic and career support services that are specifically geared toward the military community. Congressman Gonzales is working in Congress through his position on the House Appropriations Committee to deliver $5.5 million for the project.

"As a 20-year Navy veteran, I am focused on helping my fellow veterans, servicemembers, and military families secure the resources they need to succeed. That is why I am proud to partner with UTSA in an effort to deliver a new center for veterans and military students to receive support services throughout their college careers. Known to many as Military City USA, San Antonio is home to several key military installations that support a large military population. Establishing a new Veteran Excellence Center at UTSA will greatly improve educational outcomes for all those who have served or are currently serving in our armed forces," said Congressman Tony Gonzales. "UTSA is a national leader in veteran research and support, and the university has been named one of the best schools for veterans consistently. I look forward to working alongside leadership at UTSA to get this important project over the finish line."

"I'm immensely grateful to Congressman Gonzales for including UTSA's Veteran's Excellence Center in his Community Project Funding request for fiscal year 2025," said UTSA President Taylor Eighmy. "The Center aims to serve as a central point for coordinating support services, enhancing engagement, and improving success outcomes for military-affiliated students at UTSA and sister institutions across the state. With this support, we can ensure an environment that is the most conducive to both learning and growth for veteran students in San Antonio and across Texas."
