Final registration rates for the European elections on 9 June 2024

In January 2024, the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees, and the Liaison Office of the European Parliament in Luxembourg launched the "I can vote" awareness campaign. The aim of this campaign was to inform non-Luxembourgish residents who come from a member state of the European Union about their right to vote in the European elections on 9 June 2024 and to draw their attention to the need to register on the electoral rolls by 15 April 2024 at 5 pm.

The Ministry and the Liaison Office of the European Parliament in Luxembourg have also informed the citizens concerned that they have the choice of voting either for the representatives of Luxembourg or for the representatives of their country of origin in the European Parliament.

In order to closely monitor the evolution of registrations on the electoral lists, the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees has worked closely with the Centre des technologies de l'information de l'État(CTIE) to obtain statistics on registrations broken down by certain individual characteristics and by commune of residence.

With this press release, the Ministry is making these registration statistics publicly available. 3780 people have registered by 15 April 2024, the average registration rate is 15.1%.

In order to inform the municipalities about their respective registration rates, an information sheet with statistics was sent to every municipality.

As for awareness-raising initiatives, the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees, the Liaison Office of the European Parliament in Luxembourg, the Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg, partners, associations, multipliers, and municipalities have made a joint effort to encourage non-Luxembourg residents to register to vote.

Information stands were set up at the Festival des Migrations and at the BiergerpaktOrientation day, 16 municipalities and associations borrowed stand equipment for events, 15 companies received a video message from the Minister for Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees and a digital communication kit to disseminate this information to their employees. Furthermore all the country's municipalities were invited to take part in theSemaine nationale de l'inscription.

A digital campaign on social media, advertisements in print and digital media and a national campaign in bus shelters, car parks and on the tram complemented the above actions to reach as many people as possible.

The Ministry would like to thank the Liaison Office of the European Parliament in Luxembourg, all its other partners, the municipalities, multipliers and associations for their commitment to the "I can vote" campaign.
