Foreign trade in March 2021: significant increase in imports (+23.7%) and exports (+16.8%)

Vienna,2021-06-08 - The value of imports of goodswas at €15.93 bn in March 2021, an increase of 23.7% compared to March 2020, according to preliminary results by Statistics Austria. At the same time, exports of goodsrose by 16.8% to €15.13 bn. The balance of trade thus showed a deficit of €0.81 bn. Working-day adjusted, the rates of increase were 19.3% for imports and 12.9% for exports.

The four most important product groups for Austrian foreign trade are machinery and transport equipment, manufactured goods, chemicals and related products and miscellaneous manufactured articles. Aggregated they showed an import growth of 25.8% to €12.83 bn and their exports rose by 18.6% to €12.89 bn. The highest absolute growth in exports was recorded with machinery and transport equipment (+30.8%).
