Revisiting tools to combat disinformation in Latin America and the Caribbean

After the successful MOOC (massive open online course)"Disinformation & Fact-Checking in Times of COVID-19 in Latin America and the Caribbean"(link is external), which took place in early 2021 with more than 3000 participants from 52 countries, the need to expand and deepen the training opportunities for journalists, communication workers, and content creators in the region remains.

In response to this need, UNESCO and the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas at the University of Texas at Austin teamed up with the non-profit Venezuelan organization Medianálisis to offer "Disinformation & Fact-Checking in Times of COVID-19 in Latin America and the Caribbean," a fact-checking online workshop for Venezuelan journalists that includes tips and resources.

Professor Rosental Calmon Alves of the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas and Cristina Tardáguila, former Associate Director of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) and current Senior Program Director of the International Center for Journalism (ICFJ), will guide participants through the course's modules

This educational session will be held online on May 17th at 5:00 p.m. (time in Venezuela), coordinated by UNESCO and Medianálisis, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of democracy, media, and human rights in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Venezuela for more than a decade
