Abengoa completes construction of the Barcience photovoltaic plant

December 14, 2021

  • The plant has more than 145,000 photovoltaic modules to generate 50 MW of power.

December 14, 2021.- Abengoa, an international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainable development in the infrastructure, energy and water sectors, in consortium with FCC Industrial, has completed the construction of the photovoltaic plant in Barcience (Toledo, Spain), a photovoltaic project built by Abengoa.

The 50 MW Barcience plant will generate clean energy thanks to its more than 145,700 fixed photovoltaic modules. This energy will also be fed into the grid, avoiding the emission into the atmosphere of more than 15,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Specifically, the consortium formed by Abengoa and FCC Industrial has been responsible for the engineering, construction, electromechanical assembly, commissioning and purchase of all the equipment, except for the photovoltaic modules, structure and inverters.

With these new projects, Abengoa continues to consolidate its high technical capacity in photovoltaic energy, with nearly 30 years of experience and more than 500 MW built. Together with the Barcience plant, Abengoa and FCC Industrial will also develop for Iberdrola the Francisco Pizarro photovoltaic plant (590 MW and 512,000 modules) and the Puertollano plant (100 MW and 250,000 modules). Among the projects executed, the Mount Signal Solar plant in Calexico (California), with 206 MW of installed capacity, stands out. Another photovoltaic project of reference for Abengoa was recently developed in the Cerro Dominador solar complex (Chile), where Abengoa was responsible for the design and construction of a PV plant with more than 300,000 modules and a capacity of 100 MW, which combines photovoltaic energy, solar thermal energy and a storage system.

FCC Industrial continues to add projects that expand the company's extensive experience in the development of engineering contracts, construction and commissioning of photovoltaic parks and solar thermal plants. FCC Industrial currently operates and maintains the photovoltaic park in Espejo (Córdoba) and the solar thermal plants in Villena (Alicante) and Guzmán (Córdoba). Between the two plants, they have an annual electricity generation capacity of more than 190 gigawatt hours per year, which means they can supply 30,000 families and approximately 70,000 inhabitants. All this makes it possible to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 106,400 tons per year. This is equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide that would be absorbed by a forest covering an area of 15,000 hectares.
