SPIE chosen by Kinaxia to transform its server infrastructure

Kinaxia is enjoying strong growth and therefore needs to develop its infrastructure and increase its storage capacity to meet its new needs. Its previous infrastructure was based on OpenStack^[1] technology that was no longer fit for purpose or compliant with the new security standards.

High-performance and scalable infrastructure

The solution proposed by SPIE ICS is based on a new hyperconverged infrastructure that is scalable and compatible with various operating systems. This infrastructure draws on a VMware virtualisation solution that has enabled us to reduce the number of physical servers. The solution allows us to reuse several components of the old infrastructure in order to preserve the company's initial investment.

Security has been increased by implementing a business recovery plan. "The capacities of the machines have been designed to ensure that, if one of Kinaxia's two buildings suffers an Internet outage or power cut, the other can cover all the essential needs (account, file, name, badge servers)," explains Michaël Levy, Business Engineering Leader at SPIE ICS.

Customised implementation for Kinaxia

SPIE ICS advised the company from the design phase of the new infrastructure right up to its production launch. Installation was carried out by SPIE ICS's technical teams, who were able to complete the works within two months, without any production downtime.

Particular attention was afforded to the transfer of expertise, allowing Kinaxia's teams to gain independence in using their infrastructure.

Simon Jaugey, CTO at Kinaxia, explains: "the majority of our customer orders come through tools developed internally. Our performance and reliability needs are very specific and the various business teams rely on our infrastructure to provide the expected level of service. This is why we were particularly mindful of the robustness and scalability of this solution".

SPIE ICS's expertise in hyperconvergence, a booming market that aims to simplify datacentre administration by combining calculation, storage, networking and virtualisation components into a single system, was recently strengthened through the acquisition of the company Infidis, announced in July 2021.
