Japanese Consul General calls on Foc-In-C, Western Naval Command

Dr. Fukahori Yasukata, Consul General of Japan, accompanied by consular officials, visited HQWNC on 05 May 2022 and called on Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, FOCINC WNC. During the interaction that ensued, matters of mutual interest were discussed, with special focus on the growing cooperation between the two Navies. The Flag Officer highlighted the centrality of the Indian PM's vision of SAGAR in the Navy's maritime mandate and underlined the Navy's impetus to Aatmanirbhar Bharat as the means of becoming self-reliant. He also described the Make in India initiative and suggested to the Consul General that several opportunities exist for Japanese industries to invest in the defence sector, with technology transfer. Dr. Fukahori appreciated India's growing influence in global fora and the security initiatives of the Indian Navy in the maritime domain. He stated that Japan participated regularly in various bilateral and multilateral exercises with India namely JIMEX MALABAR MILAN, etc. as well as maritime security dialogues like IONS and admires the professional competence of the Indian Navy. The two dignitaries agreed that there exists large scope for enhancing cooperation between the two countries, and this needs to be fostered in multiple sectors, including defence.
