LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The Bellarmine University men's basketball team is still ironing out its 2019-20 schedule, but once again, the Knights will face some heady competition in the preseason. The University of Notre Dame announced yesterday that the Irish and Bellarmine will meet Friday, November 1 at 7 p.m. (CT) at Notre Dame's Purcell Pavilion in an exhibition game. 'I have tremendous respect for (Notre Dame) Coach (Mike) Brey and his entire staff and program,' said Bellarmine Coach . 'On behalf of everyone associated with Bellarmine University, we appreciate the opportunity to take on the Irish in this exhibition game.' Davenport added that the experience will help make his squad a better team. 'Playing great competition in a great environment is beneficial in preparing for the great competition we'll face in the nonconference portion of our schedule and the GLVC, the best Division II league in the country,' he said. 'This is a great experience for our entire program' The game will be the first exhibition between the schools, but Bellarmine and Notre Dame have squared off twice previously in the regular season. The Irish took victories over the Knights in the 1958-59 and 1961-62 seasons. Tickets for the exhibition game are expected to go on sale in early October and will be sold exclusively through the Notre Dame ticket office (website: und.com/buytickets Phone: 574-631-7356). Last season Bellarmine went 28-5 (14-4 GLVC) and played in its 11th straight NCAA tournament while capturing the GLVC Tournament title. The Irish finished the 2018-19 campaign 14-19 (3-15 ACC). Bellarmine, the 2011 national champion, announced last month that the 2019-20 season would be its last at the NCAA Division II level as the university is moving to the NCAA Division I level and joining the ASUN Conference. The final 2019-20 schedule for Bellarmine men's basketball is expected to be announced in early September.
