GRAND PORTAGE, MN:  Construction to realign a portion of Mile Creek Road and construct a new bridge over Grand Portage Creek will begin on May 28th, 2024, with anticipated completion in Fall 2024.

The NPS published a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on March 21, 2023, for the project. The FONSI and other planning documents are available online.

Construction will include removing a hazardous 90-degree turn by constructing a new road bed and installing a new bridge. Project implementation will result in improved pedestrian access and safety and protection of an existing historic stone bridge.

During construction, the roadway will continue to be open and single lane. Visitors are encouraged to plan and prepare for delays.

An in-person pre-construction meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7th, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at the Grand Portage National Monument Heritage Center.

Grand Portage National Monument is co-managed with the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, and was established to preserves a vital center of fur trade activity and Anishinaabeg Ojibwe Heritage.
