CDC issues update for clinicians on Ebola outbreak in Uganda

The Ebola outbreak in Uganda has not spread to the United States or other countries to date, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said today in an update to clinicians. As a precaution due to increasing cases in Uganda and the potential for imported cases, the update includes considerations for U.S. clinical and laboratory safety. As of Nov. 5, 132 confirmed cases have been identified in central Uganda, with a 39% death rate. Uganda declared an outbreak of the Sudan strain of the virus Sept. 20. On Oct. 7, the U.S. began routing airline passengers who have been in Uganda in the previous 21 days to one of five airports for enhanced screening.
