The Cosumnes CSD Parks and Recreation Department's Teen Action Committee (TAC) want to help their peers break down social barriers and overcome stereotypes. TAC is inviting Elk Grove teens to participate in a day of unity on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
TAC is a group of high school students who lead by example. They work as a team to develop leadership skills, improve their confidence, and create positive opportunities for youth and teens in Elk Grove.
'The purpose of Unity Day is to create a safe, fun space for teens to express themselves and learn how to become a leader in their community,' says TAC President Christiann Parham.
'This event was created by our TAC members after they held their annual Teen Forum in November,' says Clyde Udasco, Recreation Coordinator in the CSD's Teen Program. 'Participants were asking for more opportunities to get to know their peers and break down stereotypes between schools.'
Teens will earn community service hours for attending, which will be held at the Wackford Aquatic Complex. Participants will engage in leadership and team building activities and get to know teens from different schools across Elk Grove. Community speakers will address stereotypes that exist in our community and how to engage in positive relationships.
Teens can register online. For more information, contact Clyde Udasco at 916-405-5622.
