VOTED NO, TOOK THE DOUGH: Shameless Andy Harris Touts Slaughter Creek Funding He Voted Against

When Andy Harris had the chance to bring much-needed infrastructure investments to Maryland, he chose instead to turn his back on his own constituents and voted against the Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan.

Now, Harris is shamelessly taking credit for a $50,000 investment by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer to design and engineer the dredging of Slaughter Creek in Dorchester County, Maryland. The dredging has been long sought after and could benefit many local residents and small businesses.

The funding for the project was included in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which received both Democratic and Republican votes, but not from Andy Harris, who wasn't willing to stand up for Marylanders but now wants the credit for infrastructure investments he voted down.

The law funds even more infrastructure projects in Harris' district that he opposed, including:

  • $37.5 million for restoration of James and Barren Islands

  • $3.2 million in improvements to the Intracoastal Waterway

  • $2.4 million for dredging and surveying work along the North East River

Harris joins a growing chorus of Republicans taking credit for infrastructure projects they voted against.

DCCC Spokesperson Abel Iraola

"Andy Harris has no problem misleading and lying to his constituents, so it's no surprise he's now trying to take credit for infrastructure projects in Maryland's First District that he actively worked to stop in Congress. Marylanders deserve better than a congressman who is willing to lie to their faces and take credit for bipartisan work and legislative accomplishments in which he played no positive role whatsoever."
