Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Patrick Achi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire

WASHINGTON, October 20 - Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Patrick Achi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire.

Noting Côte d'Ivoire's good progress on COVID-19 vaccines, President Malpass and Prime Minister Achi discussed further efforts to accelerate vaccine deployment in the region.

President Malpass and Prime Minister Achi also discussed cocoa sector strategy and the need to improve productivity in the sector. President Malpass highlighted the need for further action to address poverty, environmental and social issues related to the cocoa industry.

President Malpass welcomed Côte d'Ivoire's ambition to reach universal electricity access by 2025 and emphasized the need for further progress toward building regional electricity markets.

President Malpass and Prime Minister Achi also discussed Côte d'Ivoire's leadership on IDA20 replenishment, including the successful Abidjan Summit, economic diversification, the need for land reforms, improving access to finance, human capital investment, and the importance of peace and stability in the Sahel region.
