CWA Takes a Seat at the Table in AI Discussions at the White House

On Tuesday, the White House hosted a discussion with the Department of Labor, administration officials, and labor and tech leaders on best practices for integrating artificial intelligence into the workplace. CWA has been a vocal advocate for giving workers a voice in how AI tools are developed and implemented, so that these new technologies enhance human creativity rather than deskill and displace our jobs.

The Biden Administration invited CWA Chief of Staff Sylvia J. Ramos to speak on behalf of CWA members. Ramos emphasized the importance of getting worker involvement, consultation, and feedback early in the process and how a union is key to protecting and advocating for workers. She further made the point that workers at every stage of the development of AI, whether they work directly for the company or a third-party contractor, need workplace protections.

While AI is poised to transform the workplace, CWA members are part of the conversation and are taking their seat at the table to center AI policies on worker empowerment.
