New youth play zone opens in Roffey

Horsham District Council are pleased to announce the opening of the second phase of the Roffey Rec Regeneration project at Roffey Recreation Ground, off Leith View Road in Horsham.

Following a project in 2018 to transform the younger children's play area with a Medieval theme, the Council has now completed an area primarily for teens and young people.

Horsham District Council is the first council in the country to install a Numuga, an innovative collection of equipment which offers users the chance to play football, rugby, cricket, basketball, netball and tennis in one compact area. The new area also includes a 'chill zone' with hammocks, and an outdoor gym, which is perfect for anyone looking to exercise outside of a formal gym setting.

The inclusion of a variety of seating and new planting makes this a welcoming space for everyone. Later in the season block colour will be added to the tarmac which will zone the playing areas and give an even brighter feel to the new space.

Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Green Spaces Cllr Jon Olson commented:

It is great to see the new youth zones at Roffey Rec already being enjoyed by local children and young people, as we ensure they have safe places to be active and play.

"The new equipment compliments the medieval themed play park for younger children and gives the area wider appeal as a space for everyone, right at the heart of the Roffey community of Horsham.

This vital community green space is situated off Leith View Road in Horsham, adjacent to Roffey Football ground, the Memorial Cricket Ground and Broadwood Recreation Ground. To celebrate the opening, we are hosting a free sports and activity afternoon, on Friday 31 May, from 12pm to 3pm. Come and join for some pro sports coaching, taster sessions and activities.

The regeneration project at Roffey Recreation Ground used Section 106 contributions, which is money provided by housing developers working in the local area to improve and expand sport and recreation facilities for local people.
