King of Prussia, PA - This fall, multiple paving and road repair projects will begin in areas throughout Valley Forge National Historical Park. These projects will address deteriorated infrastructure and improve overall driving conditions in high-use areas of the park. The projects will begin in October 2021 and are expected to continue through early summer 2022.

  • Gulph Road - The cobblestone area of Gulph Road in front of the National Memorial Arch will be leveled and the cobblestones reset. During this work, Gulph Road will be closed between the Arch and Richards Road. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation detours will be established. Through-traffic on the park tour road (North Outer Line Drive) will remain open, except when closed for repaving as listed below.

  • Park Tour Road - Segments of North Outer Line Drive will be closed for repaving.

  • Betzwood Boat Launch and Picnic Area - All roads and parking areas within the Betzwood area of the park will be leveled and paved. Additionally, the existing boat launch will be demolished and a new dock installed. During this work, access to some or all of the area will be affected.

  • Washington Memorial Chapel Parking Lot - The Washington Memorial Chapel parking lot located off Route 23 will be leveled and repaved. This lot will be temporarily closed during the work.

During the time that these areas are closed, the park asks visitors to please follow all detour and closure signs. Visitors are encouraged to explore and enjoy the many other areas of the park that remain open. Regular updates on these projects and associated closures can be found on the park website [www.nps.gov/vafo/planyourvisit/conditions.htm] as well as on Valley Forge National Historical Park social media channels.
