Celebrate Palatka’s Legendary 'Pop' Lloyd with cupcakes!

Join us to honor Palatka's own John Henry "Pop" Lloyd, a trailblazer in baseball history, on what would have been his 140th birthday. We'll be serving up community cupcakes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 at the Robert H. Jenkins Community Center (1900 Napoleon St.) and Palatka City Hall (201 N 2nd St.).

Pop Lloyd was born in Palatka on April 25, 1884. He died on March 19, 1964, in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

As a revered shortstop and manager in the Negro Leagues, Pop Lloyd left an indelible mark on the sport. Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977, he's remembered for his exceptional skill, gentlemanly conduct, and leadership.

Pop played for teams like the Philadelphia Giants and New York Lincoln Giants and led the Hilldale Daisies to their first Eastern Colored League pennant with a stellar 32-17 record.

Let's gather to remember a true sports hero and share stories over cupcakes!
