Former Director of Legislative Affairs to Vice President Pence Returns to Cornerstone Government Affairs

Chris Hodgson also previously served on the leadership team for then-Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA)

Cornerstone Government Affairs announced the return of Chris Hodgson to its federal government relations team today. After working with Cornerstone from 2010-2013, Chris spent nearly a decade serving in both the legislative and executive branches of the federal government.

Chris most recently served as director of legislative affairs for Vice President Mike Pence. As the Vice President's top liaison to Congress, he managed relationships with House and Senate leadership, congressional committees and caucuses, and members of Congress, while working to coordinate and execute efforts to achieve the Administration's legislative priorities. These priorities included the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, Right to Try, USMCA, U.S. Space Force, and CARES Act. Additionally, Chris managed incoming COVID-19 inquiries from members of Congress and provided regular updates to Capitol Hill on the efforts of the White House Coronavirus Task Force.

Before his time working for the Vice President, Chris served in House Republican leadership as deputy floor director for then-Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA). In this role, he helped guide critical bills, such as healthcare reform, Trade Promotion Authority, and 21st Century Cures, through the legislative process and worked with members and staff to navigate complex policy issues.

Chris began his career on Capitol Hill as a legislative assistant for Rep. Scalise, handling a wide range of policy issues including health care, defense, appropriations, and education, as well as the Congressman's portfolio on the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee. Prior to working for Rep. Scalise, Chris got his start in Washington as an associate at Cornerstone, working primarily with the firm's health team.

'We are thrilled to be welcoming Chris back to our team,' said Cornerstone President and Managing Director Geoff Gonella. 'Chris understands our model and approach and is well-known to our team and many of our clients. He is a person of great integrity who has an excellent reputation and will be an immediate asset to a broad and diverse set of clients.'

'Cornerstone's team-oriented approach and highly regarded professionals have been delivering results for the firm's clients for nearly two decades,' Chris said. 'I am excited to utilize my experience in House leadership and with former Vice President Mike Pence to contribute to Cornerstone's successful track record of creative, bipartisan solutions.'
