From Clay Work to Codman - Integra Japan Manager Kohei Started as an Artist

Kohei Endo, Integra country manager, oversees distribution networks, sales and marketing, and facilities for the nascent Japan operations. Kohei's early work establishing the Codman Specialty Surgical business in the region contributed to double-digit growth in the region for consecutive years. Kohei explains three key factors that accelerated his career:

Experience Diversification: I studied clay work while majoring in art in college and ended up transitioning to a different path as a marketing consultant supporting healthcare companies. After working for a few years, I went back to school to pursue my MBA at Duke University. When returning to the workforce, I took a role that involved turning around a failing business unit. These different experiences enhanced my strategic contributions early in my career because I could reflect on a variety of learnings. By the time I joined Integra, I gained foundational skills to navigate building a business from the ground up.

Thinking and Doing Bigger: When I first assumed my role at Integra, I was primarily responsible for managing local distributors. Over the past seven years, I held increasing responsibility by developing and executing business plans that broke barriers. My team and I successfully launched multiple products and established first-of-their-kind sales units in Japan, leading to exponential revenue growth. As our business has grown, I have also grown professionally at a rapid pace while working at Integra.

Inspiration From Impact Helping Others: As an artist, I channeled inspiration to create pottery. As a healthcare businessman, I channel inspiration to help others. I am lucky to improve society in my work. My Integra colleagues and I share a deeper purpose, which is to save patient lives, and that purpose motivates and challenges us to strive for exceptional results. We have made breakthrough achievements in Japan, helping those undergoing neurosurgery and liver surgery. I look forward to expanding our business and improving healthcare throughout Asia.
